Norwalk Man Charged After Driving With Open Can Of Beer In New Canaan, Police Say

A man was busted for driving with an open can of beer in his vehicle in New Canaan.

Jose Merino-Mejia, 40, of Norwalk, was arrested by New Canaan police after they received a report of a disabled vehicle on New Norwalk Road and Lakeview Road, police said.

When officers approached the vehicle, they could smell alcohol and observed an open can of beer in the vehicle, police said.

Merino-Mejia refused to take a breath alcohol test. He was arrested and charged with drinking while driving and open container in a motor vehicle.

He was released on $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 6.
